Once upon a time I brought a brand new shiny chainsaw which went swimmingly.
I cleaned and checked it over everytime I used it and made sure it was in tip top shape (or so I thought).
Over time it slowly lost it’s edge, so I would sharpen the chain and re tension it three or four times before I was satisfied with it.
But no matter what I did, or how much attention I gave to that chain, I couldn’t get to back to it’s original sharpness.
Even a new chain didn’t help much.
Then a light bulb came in my head and I thought -what if the chainbar is stuffed?
A quick google search confirmed my suspicions, whereupon I reinstalled the chainbar upside down (it’s typically less worn on the top). -it ran a lot better and cut thru wood like butter just as it had in the old days.
The key problem with the chainbar was the groove that the chain sits in
That 0.26 mm ( 0.01023622 inch ) was the difference between cutting wood like a hot knife through butter or burning your way thru like I was inadvertantly doing.
Clever fix! 🙂
