The following is an actual letter that was sent to a bank by a 96-year-old woman. The bank manager thought it amusing enough to have it published in the New York Times.

To whom it may concern,

It’s been a long wet, cold winter, and most of our new trees have been bare and dead looking -some of them actually are I think.

So it’s with some relief as the weather has got warmer that our trees are coming to life again.
