Ever since the Pukekohe racetrack closed several years ago, I’ve moved onto watching the racing at Hampton Downs every year instead.
It’s not quite the same though, they seem to run it differently every year and they haven’t quite worked out what works and what doesn’t.
This year the food area was well setup, but otherwise most things tend to feel just a bit ‘off’.
Whether it’s the overly loud public speakers with an announcer thats forever talking incessantly, or the uneven race schedule with odd time delays, but I think a lot of it is the way they suddenly change their mind about things at the last moment. It’s almost as if there’s a panic merchant somewhere in management who throws a spanner in the works occassionally.
Unfortunately, it’s not a great race track for taking photographs at, because of a very high safety fence thats just everywhere, so it means getting a camera right up against the fence, which then makes it hard to follow the action with a camera.

There were heaps of bikes in the carpark, but the number of interesting bikes sadly seems to get fewer and fewer every year.
