I wrote the stuff below, then realised I could do a better job by relating how we felt felt about the covid response rather than writing a summary as below.
Given that Jacinda’s Government was a populist movement which was very sensitive to polling well, this meant that the covid response by dictated by popular opinion of the masses, which in turn was influenced by an irresponsible, gas lighting media.
A narrow-minded all or nothing singular approach was used in response to covid, which lacked any critical thinking.
It became a populist’s ‘war on covid’, where everything was focused on elimination, and vaccination was the weapon of choice.
To that end any ‘dissenters or different points of view were discarded, canceled, and rejected as traitors to the cause.
It’s telling that Members of Parliament were exempt from getting the vaccine, with a long winded word salad of an explanation. That all by itself tells you that the whole covid thing isn’t all that serious, and that MP’s themselves were just going along with it, rather than make a fuss.
Rationality, Objective analysis, and science went out the window.
- The original pandemic plan ( NZ influenza pandemic plan) -gone by lunch time.
- Laws were hastily made ‘under urgency’, then changed on a regular basis, seemingly by whim. (mask exemptions are a good example). It gave the impression that the exemption process was actually designed to be so difficult, no one would bother applying. A bit of common sense will tell you that wearing an ordinary mask is a waste of time, but it became a popular virtue signaling badge to show that you were part of that ‘team of 5 million’, which Jacinda showcased as part of her superstar image.
- The Bill of rights was bypassed
- Mandates were introduced for public servants at first, then large corporate companies amorally just went with the flow.
- Somehow, it was reasoned that the unvaccinated were dangerous to the vaccinated…
- The ‘traffic light’ system was introduced, which created segregation and social conflict. It was later admitted by epidemiologist Michael Baker, that it was never designed to contain covid, rather it was to ‘nudge’ people to get vaccinated.
- The anti mandate Wellington protest was violently ended, and then fact free documentaries were made about it. (I attended the Wellington protest, so I know exactly what was actually going on, and it wasn’t what Main Stream Media were saying on behalf of the Government.)
The vaccine..
The approved vaccine manufacturer miraculously invented a cure, and was able to make it in vast quantities at short notice, with no liability on themselves in a confidential contract that also states the Government cant criticise the manufacturer.
Given that the common flu mutates faster than a vaccine can be made and there is no cure, it stretches credibility that the covid vaccine was going to be anywhere near 100% effective. In other words, that ‘war on covid’ strategy was always going to fail.
The actual effectiveness is now well known.
I guess they had real good sales people…
The vaccine was approved in the USA under ‘Emergency use only’, thereby getting it on the market without any long term testing.
Adverse effects of the vaccine
These were vehemently denied officially, and social media was extensively censored as part of that ‘war on covid’.
I personally never had any adverse effects, but I regularly met people by chance who have/had long term health issues, which happen to have started after the first or second covid vaccination. I have no reason not to believe what these people told me.
Lockdowns
This was an extreme over the top strategy that was never going to work, but was philosophically consistent with the ‘no retreat, no surrender’ attitude of the day.
The social disruption was enormous.
- Schools closed at short notice. Our kids school simply wasn’t prepared, and they had next to no teaching for two terms (We lived in Auckland). It negatively effected kids social development.
- There was a whimsical nature to the covid response, so we home schooled our kids instead, rather than put their future in the hands of incompetence.
- Non essential industries were closed
- Large corporates managed to get exemptions, smaller businesses didn’t have the legal clout to do the same, which unfairly disadvantaged them
- The National debt was doubled as a result of all this tomfoolery.
- Auckland was locked down for a single case of Delta. It may have made the polls look good, but it always a dumb idea, because you can never eradicate a disease, especially when it can be asymptomatic (harmless),
Censorship and the silencing of opposing opinions
The consequences of all this is a lack of trust in any Government Department, which also includes any organisation that relies on Government funding, as they were practicing vaccine discrimination on behalf of the Government. (The Sports foundation for example)
The continuing harrassment of health professionals who tried to raise the alarm regarding adverse effects (and have since been proven right), doesn’t instill a sense of trust in these establishments. It shows these organisations to be unprofessional and vindictive, with an inability to learn from their mistakes.
Some examples are
- Barry Young, the whistleblower who gave out copies of NZ Health’s data that show the extent of adverse effects.
- Dr Sam Bailey, who has a different view to the Medical council, who are still trying to cancel her.
