Matt King’s anti-mandate party folds the tent

Matt King started the Democracy NZ party at a time when covid mandates and lockdowns were the ‘in thing’, and human rights were overidden on an almost daily basis.

He was one of the few politicians who fronted up at the Wellington anti-mandate protest, and got a trespass notice served against him for his trouble.

that naughty letter

“DemocracyNZ was formed 1 year and 11 months ago today. It was formed on the basis of true democracy in our country and standing up for what’s right, to protect our fundamental democratic rights.

The last Election proved that democracy is not always at the forefront of voting – most people vote with fear instead of courage, and the media plays a role in perpetuating a narrative that suits themselves.

Our experience over the 18 months to the Election was that there are so many passionate Kiwis who believed in what we were standing up for – and joined us on the mission to protect our democratic rights. It also showed us how easily swayed some people are when they are fed lies – and how quickly some people can be bought off when money or power is waved at them.

We have this week deregistered DemocracyNZ. Our experience in politics recently has shown that honesty and integrity do not always prevail – it comes down to who can be bought and paid for. To succeed in politics, you often have to keep your mouth shut on certain topics for fear of falling in the polls, or go along with virtue-signalling so you look popular and in tune with your counterparts. We won’t play those games. Politics for us is about courage and service – not photo ops and selfies.

We would like to thank all our supporters for your loyalty and your steadfast passion – while we are no longer a registered political party now, we are still advocates for the things that are important to us, and that legacy will live on.”

As I’ve written before, politics are not the solution to NZ’s problems, it’s culture needs to change for the better.

Kudo’s to Matt King for trying his hardest though, I’m sure he made a positive difference for the better, even if it’s not measurable.

  1. I definitely agree with the idea that politics reflects culture, and therefore culture must be changed before politics can change. On the other hand, I do wonder if the Democracy NZ party was effective at changing the culture, at least to some degree. I don’t live in NZ, so I don’t know, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t have some influence.

  2. It appears that, no matter what country you live in, the pursuit of a global government is impacting voting and voters. Serious voters pursue the truth and wade through everything else.
