I know this is a bit of a clique, but the kids are now 16 & 18yrs old and it’s happened so quick, and I dont know where all the time went..
With that in mind, I always take a week off in the school holidays and spend time with them, before they fly out of the nest.
For these holidays, we planned to go to New Plymouth and do the Coastal walk.
https://www.wildtaranaki.co.nz/our-adventures/the-coastal-walkway/

We started at the very start in Bell Block on a brisk spring morning. It mostly goes through farmland on a well developed footpath. My oldest daughter took the opportunity to take photo’s of any flowers, as we went along, which meant she was bringing up the rear most of the time.
After a few hours, we got to within sight of the Rewa Rewa bridge..

It’s obviously a really unique design, but we always seem to find it undergoing ‘maintenance’. One suspects that the ‘temporary’ support straps might point to a structural/design weakness..
In any case, it’s hard to get a decent photo of it without all the scaffolds and stuff on it.

The walkway follows the coast (the clue is in the name) and eventually takes you right into the middle of Taranaki’s major city, New Plymouth.

It was at this point, that we all got distracted by a cafe and headed for breakfast/lunch

We never quite got back to the walkway, as we have walked this part of it before, and the kids were more interested in shopping instead.

Our wandering brought us to a record shop, which the kids really got into, which meant dad was reaching for his wallet again..
All up, it was a good rewarding day.

You’re a good dad.
