I’ve since had conversations with people about my experiences, and they ask
“why did you bother?, there’s nothing you can do and it’s probably all corrupt anyway”.
I have several problems with that viewpoint.
We were following the law and attempting to hold them to the standards according to the law, if your not going to respect the law, then whats the point of having them?
Yes, they hobbled us as much as they could, but a constant thorn in their side makes it harder for corruption to occur.
I don’t accept the view that some corruption is something to be tolerated, “because it just happens anyway”. You either have standards and live up to them, or you don’t. There shouldn’t be a compromise buried in there somewhere.
Standards matter
Integrity matters
If you dont care about either, your on a slippery slope to nowhere good.
The lesson from all this is that Government deptpartments see themselves above the law, and are accountable to no one.
I’m a bit bemused that I didn’t see it coming, I just thought we could scrutineer as according to the law.

Kudos to you for trying, and too bad you got such a runaround. I understand the liberals got the boot in your election, but maybe they would have fared better if it wasn’t for people like you keeping an eye on things.
