The first was a women’s empowerment event that was ‘cancelled’ by the tranz crowd

The Rainbow crowd had tried unsuccessfully with court action to stop Kellie-Jay Keen (Posie Parker) from coming into the country, so they set out to make as much noise and disruption as possible to shut her down, when she went to speak at Albert park near Auckland’s university.
Eventually, the Police had to rescue her after she was attacked by a protester with a bottle of possibly tomato sauce.
It was a noisy and rowdy affair, and it was hard to work out which side was which. The rainbow crowd appeared to be mostly university students. The older people amongst them were mostly their parents. Most of their signs were confusing and didn’t make sense with what they were doing. Some of their signs said ‘peace and love’, while they were doing the opposite..

So, in summary, a Womens empowerment event was effectively cancelled by the rainbow crowd.
The second one focused on sex education for kids

The other event in town was Hannah Tamaki’s, Vision NZ party at Aotea square, which was near the other protest.
This was a typical Destiny church type event and was well organised, controlled, and they were on message. It was a quiet event, but then things changed quickly…
After Kellie-Jay had left the scene, the rainbow protesters arrived at Vision’s event. however, this event was well attended by the Man-Up organisation, which is a group of rather staunch looking guys, so any attempt at intimidation wasn’t going to work.
The only incident I saw was when someone with peroxide hair tried to rip a sign off a kid. That got sorted out real quick when another kid defused the situation. The rainbow crowd also tried drowning out whoever was speaking, but Vision had a decent sound system and just turned the volume up, and then a more assertive speaker took the stage and rallied the crowd.

Eventually, Vision NZ decided to march down Queen st. The rainbow crowd couldn’t stop this, so they walked on the footpath next to them making lots of noise. They all finished up at the bottom of Queen st, where Vision NZ did a haka (a traditional Maori song/dance) and the tranz crowd tried to stare them down.
P.S. It wasn’t a good way to advertise Auckland Universities ‘culture’ to my kids -they are going elsewhere.
P.P.S A cruise ship from the USA was visiting at the time -What a way to make them feel ‘at home’
P.P.P.S It seems I missed a lot of the violence at Kellie-Jays event
