NZ at large has largely moved on from covid. Any social and economic damage is mostly been ignored, as if the last two years never happened.
I suspect it’s simply not talked about because most people have regrets of some sort, and the government funded media is hardly about to hold their paymasters to account.
The governments probably the weakest and most dangerous one NZ has ever had. I wont go into the reasons why, because I’m more interested in plotting a course through all this mess, which is why I want to put politics aside and look at this as objectively as possible.
Its likely any recovery wont be government led, therefore nothing is going to change unless it comes from the public at large. It’s also likely the Government will get increasingly more disconnected from the mindset of the average citizen they are meant to represent.
My guess is, most people will just go back to what they were doing 2 years ago as best they can.
Recriminations and any legal action over mandates, etc will happen much later in the future.
Life may be mostly normal again, but the last two years of dealing with covid hysteria from Joe Public isn’t exactly confidence inspiring with regards to the future.
We have our concerns about our families future though…
- The education system is still a mess and the local high school isn’t an acceptable option for our kids. We homeschooled our kids to get around this, but they suffer from social isolation, so its not ideal.
- Crime is getting out of control, I can’t see this been dealt with unless their is a change of government at the next election in 2023. Ram raids are a thing these days, mostly by young kids who are basically immune to been arrested.
- A probable economic crisis. It was predicted that the covid lockdowns would push the economy off a cliff (Auckland was locked down for 107 days which cost a billion dollars a week).
- A recent announcement that will wipe out food production in NZ by 20% in some sectors, shows just how out of touch the government is at the moment.

We are looking at solutions to most of these problems, but that’s for another post.
