The gradual politicisation of covid deaths in New zealand

In the beginning, a death of a person ‘with’ covid was treated very seriously indeed, as indeed perhaps it should, because a person has died.

The problem with that analysis though, is that it doesn’t look at the situation objectively, or examine the facts in a logical fashion.

Was the person in good health, despite the covid? or were they near the end of their life expectancy, with a weak immune system?

For those who think I’m been callous and uncaring, you might want to consider that we all have a limited time on earth, and that no one is immortal. Death is a path we are all going to take eventually.
The older you are, the closer you are to moving on. (this why I don’t like wasting time, while I’m alive).

I’ve have recorded all the covid deaths in New Zealand from the first one on 29 March 2020. I have recorded their name, age, place of residence, date of death, etc.

As we have progressed from Alpha, through Delta to Omicron, it’s been getting harder to get any details at all, due to ‘privacy issues’. As of last week, there were 63 deaths ‘with’ covid.

Those 63 deaths include a guy who got shot and died at the scene.

then there’s the man who died of a stroke in quarantine, and another who died in hospital after been admitted for a trauma incident.

If the UK and Italian stats are anything to go by, the actual number of deaths who actually died ‘from’ Covid is around 3 – 12% of the total who died ‘with’ covid.

The main thing to note about New Zealand though, is a distinct lack of deaths ‘due’ to covid. (63 as of last week)

As of today though (this week), NZ officially has had 93 deaths to covid, from a population of 5.1 million.

The numbers have gone up dramatically in the last week, because they have ‘redefined’ what a covid death is.

The Ministry of health in their wisdom have ‘redefined’ a covid death as anyone who has died within 28 days of testing positive for covid.

“Deceased -Includes all cases that died who died within 28 days of being reported as a COVID-19 case. In some of these cases, the underlying cause of death may have been unrelated to COVID-19.”

I guess they have to justify all these lockdowns and social upheaval somehow.

UPDATE, now 113 official deaths, amazing how the numbers climb with a bit of tinkering with the statistics.
